Oakmont Community Church Receives 2019 Best of Santa Rosa Award

SANTA ROSA November 20, 2019 — Oakmont Community Church has been selected for the 2019 Best of Santa Rosa Award in the Places of Worship category by the Santa Rosa Award Program.

Each year, the Santa Rosa Award Program identifies companies that we believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and our community. These exceptional companies help make the Santa Rosa area a great place to live, work and play.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2019 Santa Rosa Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the Santa Rosa Award Program and data provided by third parties.

On May 21st, the board voted to relocate the church to the East Rec upon its completion. The East rec has many nice qualities that I believe will enhance our worship experience. One of the things they have included at the East rec is black out curtains. Up until now, we have not been able to electric candles because the room has been filled with light. But at the East we will be able to bring electric candles into our worship experience. I am thinking a candle lit Christmas Eve service. There are a lot more exciting things yet to come… We should be in the new location by mid-summer, although we do not have a precise date as of yet. Until, we will return to the Berger and give both the card room and art room back to those who enjoy these spaces. More news will come as we get it. Pastor Brinda

Vickie spent some time over the holidays delivering gift baskets to people in the community who need a little extra love. No, this service ministry was not part of the church. It was part of the Oakmont Volunteers who serve Oakmont Village.

Did you know that when you serve people, you are serving Jesus, whether or not the church is involved. How are you serving Jesus in your community?

 Just before Christmas, the OCC sponsored a Christmas Sing-along for the residents at the Gardens. Everyone had a wonderful time singing, eating refreshments and visiting with one another. Our piano player, Shirley (see below) blessed us by leading the singing while playing her ukulele, while her cousin, Margaret played the piano. Shirley is a member of the local Methodist church, and she volunteers her services to help us out during our Sunday Worship at the Gardens.

It was a morning of excitement in the CAC. Everyone was full of joy and anticipation as the service began. The Holy Spirit’s presence was evident as he filled the room. The room felt warm and cozy. It felt like we were in a church building and not a card room. A dozen people showed up early and prayed for the room and the service, as well as, the community at large. It was exciting to see all the new faces that the Lord brought in to join us for this first service. Next door was the video cafe’. This room is a place to meet before and after the service for coffee and refreshments but it is also an overflow room with live video streaming of the service next door. It is my prayer that we will need the overflow room on a regular bases as the Lord add to our church family. The Lord is good and this new worship center has brought life into the congregation. – Pastor Brinda
